The Municipal District of St. Stephen has 49 km of streets and about 25 km of sidewalks. To keep our residents moving safely, every kilometre is maintained. In the winter months, we operate a snow removal and sanding program. In the summer, our streets and sidewalks are maintained and repaired, starting with sweeping in the spring.
SUMMER 2026 - ROAD WORK UPDATES:
Below is the Municipal District of St. Stephen's current schedule for road and operations work. Over the coming weeks, some roads will be subject to temporary closures for construction, milling, paving, and related infrastructure improvements.
Please note that the roads listed below represent our anticipated closures based on the current construction schedule. However, this list may not be comprehensive, as work plans can change due to weather conditions, project progress, unforeseen site conditions, or operational requirements identified by the contractor or the municipality.
As work proceeds, we encourage residents and visitors to watch for posted road closure notices, detours, and traffic control personnel. Also a reminder that all construction zone are NO PARKING and vehicles will be towed.
We will continue to provide updates as information becomes available.
We appreciate your patience and cooperation as we undertake these important improvements to our transportation infrastructure.

Wondering what "earthworks" means?
In paving, earthworks is the foundation process of shaping, stabilizing, and preparing the raw ground before any aggregate or asphalt is laid. It is the most critical phase of construction, ensuring the pavement can handle heavy loads, prevent frost heave, and properly shed water over its lifespan.
