Bernadette Cunningham is a first-time elected Councillor for Ward 2 in 2026.
She has been calling St. Stephen home, with her husband Mark, since 2004. Over the past couple decades, she has had many different roles in the community. While raising her two children she volunteered for numerous organizations, including Home and School and the Parent School Support committee (PSSC) raising funds to go towards the Milltown Elementary School (MES) playground. She also used her artistic skills painting a mural in the MES cafeteria as well as painting outdoor hop scotches at three schools to help kids be entertained and active.
Bernadette, better known as Bernie, has been a small business owner of “Bernie’s Body Blast” since 2015 and an active member of the Downtown Business Improvement Area (BIA). Her studio provides group fitness classes for all ages and fitness level, as well as hosting active birthday parties.
Her passion for seeing people healthy and happy shows up in unique ways, like creating an Easter event with a helicopter and thousands of eggs, just to find a positive way to bring people together and stepping up to be an active member of the 53rd annual International Homecoming Festival volunteer committee.
As a grandmother her priority is having a positive influence in the community both right now as well as for the next generation of residents that will call it home.
