Emily Rodas is a first time Councillor, elected in 2022 to the newly formed Municipal District of St. Stephen (starting January 1st, 2023).
Emily (she/her) is a Registered Social Worker and has worked with a wide range of individuals (children, adolescents, persons with disabilities, palliative care clients, and seniors). Born and raised on the Ledge Road, Emily returned to St. Stephen in 2017 to start her career with the local Extra-Mural Program. Here, she was able to sit with hundreds of individuals and families at their kitchen tables, learning first-hand of the challenges faced in our community.
In April of 2022, Emily switched gears and took a leadership role with Sophia Recovery Centre, a new (to Charlotte County) non-residential treatment centre for women seeking recovery from addiction. In this role, through a trauma-informed and gender-responsive approach, she oversees this new community centre. Emily and her team continue to support the rapid growth of the centre by developing and implementing programs specific to the needs of women recovering in our community.
Emily is passionate about social action and advocacy work, therefore running for council was her next big step in giving back. Through her experiences supporting clients, and learning from them, Emily hopes to provide a young, fresh perspective and to represent voices of the more vulnerable members of our community. She is proudly LGBTQ+, and when she’s not out fighting the good fight, she loves to spend time relaxing and adventuring with her wife Katelyn and two boys, Desi & Cruz.
